DE FREITAS/NICE RADIO WRITTEN BY PM GONSALVES’ LAWYERS
Lawyer Grahame Bollers today sent a letter to the Managing Director of Nice Radio, Douglas De Freitas, seeking an apology and the sum of $500,000.00 for remarks made by a Canadian-Vincentian citizen on Nice Radio.
Bollers in his letter stated the remarks made by Margaret Parsons, and broadcast twice on Nice Radio, were meant to defamed the good name and reputation of Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves.
De Freitas has until Friday to issue a public apology and to pay up the $500.000.00 or face legal action.
Meanwhile, another of Dr Gonsalves’ lawyers, Richard Williams, is seeking to put the record straight about comments made by Parsons.
In a letter to the various media houses here, Williams said Parsons distorted a number of facts while speaking on radio here.
Parsons filed a private criminal complaint, stating Dr Gonsalves assaulted her in 2003, but Williams pointed out in his letter, she was not in the country at the time of the alleged assault.
DPP Colin Williams took over and discontinued the matter due to a lack of corroborating evidence.
UK SVG ASSOCIATION HOLD AGM
The National Committee of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Associations in the UK recently held its Annual General Meeting, where reports from all the Chairpersons of the various Vincentian Associations in the UK were tabled.
The outgoing president, Mrs. Gloria Jack, thanked the members for their support and co-operation during her term of office.
This was followed by the elections of officer, which the Minister Counsellor of High Commission for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in London Maxwell Charles conducted.
PM GONSALVES ATTENDS PETRO CHEMICAL MEETING IN VENEZUELA
Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves will leave here tomorrow for Venezuela.
Dr Gonsalves will make the trip to the South American country to attend the Petro Chemical meeting, along with some other Heads from the region.
SUTHERLAND- FACE OF SHABEAU WINNER RETURNS
Face of Shabeau winner, Odin Sutherland, will arrive back home this evening from Barbados.
Minister of Culture, Rene Baptiste and members of the Image Modelling Agency are expected to meet Sutherland at the airport.
Sutherland captured the face of Shabeau title last Saturday in Barbados and now earns the right to be the Caribbean’s magazine ambassador for a year.
NO MULTIPLE KILLINGS SAYS DEP COMMISSIONER OF POLICE
Police have confirmed that there were no multiple killings in Green Hill this morning.
Word of a man killing his wife and children surfaced throughout the day, by the Deputy Commissioner of Police responsible for crime, Lenford Brewster, said this was not so.
EARTH DAY CELEBRATED TODAY
Earth day is being celebrated here today with a march through the streets of capital city Kingstown, which will end with a rally at the Victoria Park.
A number of organisations, business and schools will be involved in today's earth day march and rally, and the occasion will be used to sensitise persons here how to be more conscious of what the earth has to offer and how its natural resources should be protected.

PM GONSALVES TO REPORT ON EUROPEAN TRIP
Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves will hold a media briefing this morning at 10.00 am. Dr Gonsalves will use the occasion to bring the nation up to date on his recent trip to Europe, where he met with a number of government officials and investors.While in Europe, Dr Gonsalves was able to get the Austria government to channel funds into the Regional Development Fund and to assist Haiti with food.
Before returning home last Friday evening, Dr Gonsalves held a Town Hall meeting with Vincentians living in England and brought them up to date on developments here.
TOP EDUCATION OFFICIALS ADDRESS STUDENTS AT AWARDS CEREMONY...
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Laura Browne, is calling on students to take advantage of the educational opportunities now made available to them by the government.
Speaking at an awards ceremony last Friday, where students who were successful in last year’s CXC and Common Entrance examinations were recognised, Mrs. Browne said there are a number of educational opportunities now available to students, through government’s education revolution.
Also speaking at that awards ceremony, Chief Education Officer, Susan Dougan urged students not to be complacent, now that hey have gained certain academic achievements.
Mrs. Dougan asked the students to look beyond themselves and to reach out and help others who are less fortunate.
ODINI SUTHERLAND WINS FACE OF SHADEAU CONTEST
This country’s female representative to the Face of Shabeau contest in Barbados, Odini Sutherland, won the right to represent the magazine at various model calls for one year. Sutherland beat out competitors from Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, St Kitts-Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago and the US Virgin Islands.
The Grenadian representative won in the male category, while the Image Modelling Agency, which Sutherland represents, was named Franchise Holder that had the best Face of Shabeau preliminary competition.
POLICE INVESTIGATES ANOTHER MURDER
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Edgerton Richards , JR who was killed last Saturday.
According to reports, Richards was shot while at Keartons and police are now questioning Alban Thomas in relation to Richards’ death.
Richards was the son of the late Edgerton"Uncle Metro" Richards, who established the Metrocint Insurance Company, and was owner of the Vincentian newspaper.
The young Richards’ death brings to six the number of homicide in this country so far for the year.

DEP PM THROWS OUT CHALLENGE
Deputy Prime Minister, Sir Louis Straker, has thrown out a challenge to anyone who is questioning his presence as a parliamentarian with dual citizenship.
Speaking on the ULP’s Feed back programme that was broadcast simultaneously on WE FM and Star FM last night, Sir Louis said he has heard remarks used by a member of the NDP, Frank Da Silva, who says the Central Leeward representative should pay back monies to the Treasury, which he has been collecting as a parliamentarian since 1994.
Sir Louis said his detractors must not talk but use the necessary law available to challenge him. I know the constitution is on my side, Sir Louis said.
PSU TO ELECT NEW EXECUTIVE
The Public Service Union, the PSU will hold its bi-annual general meeting to elect a new executive tomorrow. The interest is in the position of President, and the incumbent, Aubrey Burgin, is facing challenge from two other persons. ‘Cools’ Vanloo, who Burgin narrowly defeated the last time around, is one of the persons challenging him for the presidency.
PM GONSALVES COMPLETES EUROPEAN VISITS
Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves held a Town Hall Meeting with Vincentian nationals from a number of Vincentian groups in England yesterday evening.
The meeting was held at the Buckinghamshire New University, High Wycombe Campus, at the Lecture Theatre and Dr Gonsalves brought the Vincentians up to date on the country’s development plans, and took questions on a number of issues.
Before visiting England Dr Gonsalves was in Austria and Switzerland, where he held talks with a number of investors and was able to secure funds from the Austrian government, which go towards the Development Fund in the Caribbean. Dr Gonsalves is expected back home today.
PAN AGAINST CRIME GOES TO COLONARIE
The Pan against crime programme will move to Colonarie this Sunday at the Colonarie Primary School.
This week’s segment will feature the sound of steel pan music from Starlift, Elite and the St Benedict Day Nursery steel orchestras, with other performances from the police band, the Byrea-Park Hill adolescence group and the Park Hill Primary School.
The pan against crime programme is an initiative of Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, which is aimed at taking the steel pan in the different communities with the hope of attracting more young people to the instrument and away from crime.

LYNCH TO KNOW FATE ON MAY 23RD.
A master of the Court will on May 23rd,determine how much money talk show host Elwardo ‘EG’ Lynch will have to fork out to pay Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves. Lynch lost all his appeals in a libel suit Dr Gonsalves brought against him, after he stated publicly that the Prime Minister used public funds to purchase airline tickets for his mother and daughter to travel to Rome to see the Pope.
Dr Gonsalves is seeking over $300,000 in damages, while Lynch is asking the court to allow him to pay
between $60,000 to $100,000.
STUBBS PRIMARY SCHOOL RECEIVES FUNDING FROM SIF.
The area of Stubbs is now the beneficiary of steel pans from the Social Investment Fund, which is helping
in the pan against crime initiative of Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves. The Stubbs Primary School recently received pans worth some $100,000 and Andrew Simmons of JEMS stated this will now help youths in the area to use their creative minds and make the project one of the best in the country.

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves is now in England and is expected to meet with Vincentians from a number of organisations for a Town Hall Dr Gonsalves met earlier today with a number of investors, who are showing interest in investing in this country. Dr Gonsalves arrived in England this morning, following successful meetings in Austria and Switzerland and he is expected back home this Friday.
UTEC TO TRAIN ADULT EDUCATORS...
Twenty Adult Educators here will be receiving further training courtesy the University of Technology in
Jamaica, which will provide the training online. The training programme was officially launched here
with a ceremony at the Haddon Hotel earlier this week.
Chester James, Project Manager for EU projects said the programme aims to increase access to adult education in St Vincent and the Grenadines and that it also seeks to improve the management qualities of adult educators. The government of St Vincent and the Grenadines and the European Development Fund will fund the training.
KCCU 50TH ANNIVERSARY
As the Kingstown Co-operative Credit Union celebrates its 50th anniversary, members and other officials have been reminded that they all have a critical role to play in the development of the economy of St Vincent and the Grenadines.
This reminder came from Reuben John, President of the SVG Credit Union League. John pointed out that the current recession in the United States will have a negative impact on economies such as this country’s and warned KCCU officials to prepare for the challenging times ahead. SVG AND REGION TO BENEFIT FROM EUROPEAN VISITS BY PM GONSALVES
Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves’ recent trip to three European countries will bring benefits to this
country and the region as a whole. In an exclusive interview with Star News, Dr Gonsalves
said he was able to negotiate with the Austrian government monies to be placed in the regional
development fund, which this country and the rest of the region would benefit from.
Dr Gonsalves also disclosed that the Austrian government has agreed to help the region in the areas
of disaster preparedness through CERDA, training for diplomats in the region and scholarships for
Vincentians in the area of Tourism. The issue of Haiti was brought up during talks with the Austrian government, with the authorities acceding to a request from Dr Gonsalves to send food to the French-speaking Caribbean nation.
AIRPORT HEAVY EQUIPMENT SOURCED...
Two pieces of heavy equipment that were to be sourced by the Venezuelan government to help in the
construction of this country’s international airport has been secured. One piece of the equipment will come out of Miami, while the other will be purchased from a Panamanian company.
The Venezuelan government, along with Taiwan, Mexico and Cuba are some of the main players in this
country’s quest to construct an international airport, which is expected to complete by the year 2010.

PM GONSALVES MEETS VINCENTIAN ORGANIZATIONS IN ENGLAND...
Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves will leave tomorrow for England after a visit to Switzerland where he held meetings with a group of investors.
Dr Gonsalves is expected to address a Town Hall meeting, where representatives from a number of Vincentian organisations are expected to turn up. The Prime Minister will bring them up to date of the situation here and respond to questions from the audience. He is expected back in the country on Friday.
ST.V PLANNED PARENTHOOD ASSOCIATIONS HOLDS WORKSHOP...
The St. Vincent Planned Parenthood Association recently held a three-day workshop for twenty-two
young people from different parts of the country. The workshop looked specifically at social issues affecting youths in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and addressed topics such as; sexual and Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDS, Self Esteem and Anger Management.
President of the Planned Parenthood association, Monty Eustace addressed the youths, along with former Speaker of the House, Monty Maule, who gave the feature address. Mr. Maule advised the participants to make a plan for their lives, not to allow their peers and others to dictate who they become and not to dance to the
drumbeat of others. At the end of the three days, the participants who were drawn from the villages in Barrouallie to Owia expressed their interest in continuing this type of activity in their communities.
THREE MORE VINCENTIANS LEAVE ON VENEZUELIAN SCHOLARSHIPS...
After seven months in training and preparation in the Spanish language, three more young female Vincentians will leave tomorrow for Venezuela on scholarships.
A release from the Venezuelan Embassy states the young ladies will deepen ties and expand their learning experiences in fulfilling the dreams of both this nation and that of Venezuela. The release also states that sponsorship will provide for studies in Tourism and the students made it known to the Embassy that more than ever, they are committed to their country, and have long felt a commitment to Venezuela.
NEMO WORKSHOP
Disaster Respondents and Emergency Operation Personnel at national level will attend a two-day workshop on the incident command system from tomorrow to Thursday.
The Incident Command System is organized by the National emergency Management Organisation, NEMO, in collaboration with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency and the Pan American health Organisation, PAHO.
POLICE INVESTIGATIONS INTO SHOOTINGS CONTINUES...
The Police are investigating the circumstances into the shooting of Brian Samuel, an 18-year-old, labourer of Redemption Sharpes, which occurred at Redemption Sharpes last week Thursday.
A police release states Samuel was walking along the Redemption Sharpes public road when an unknown assailant appeared and fired several gunshots at him. Samuel sustained four gunshot injuries to his head and is a patient at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.
Police are also investigating the shooting of Jamal Holder, a 21-year-old labourer of Redemption
Sharpes, which occurred at Redemption Sharpes last Friday. The police said Holder was walking to his home in the Trigger Ridge area, when he was attacked by two men and subsequently sustained a gunshot to his neck.
VINSA WINS ASSOCIATION OF THE YEAR AWARD
The Vincentian Students’ Association, VINSA, based at the St Augustine Campus of the University of the West Indies,Trinidad, copped the Association of the Year award at a recently held Caribbean Integration Week 2008.
The Caribbean Integration Week 2008 under the theme: Building Bridges – Keeping our Caribbean Connection Alive, was hosted by the Guild of Students in celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the UWI.
Vinsa was adjudged Association of the Year at the culminating grand dinner and awards ceremony held last month, which Minister of Tourism, Glen Beache attended.
FORMER MISS SVG WINS CARIBBEAN FASHION AWARD
Former Miss SVG, Kimon Baptiste, won a statuette at the inaugural Caribbean Fashion Award last Saturday at the Dr. João Havelange Centre of Excellence in Trinidad & Tobago.
A trained designer, Baptiste won the country award for St Vincent and the Grenadines, which saw designs from also from Kyma Glasgow and Debbie Barbour.
Baptiste has a wide range of clothing from causal wear to gowns.
The National Investment Promotions Inc. sponsored the local nominees participation at the awards ceremony.
SIR JAMES AWARDED COST...
The Commission of Inquiry into the failed Ottley Hall and Marina Project will not be appealing against a decision handed down last week by the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal, awarding cost to former Prime Minister, Sir James Mitchell.
The court of appeal rule that Sir James should be paid the legal cost for his appearance before the court and half the legal cost for his appearance before the court of appeal.
One of the lawyers for the Commission, Anthony Astaphan hinted the Commission would appeal the court’s decision, but this has now been shelved.

The Sion Hill Bay-Bay Hill Neighbourhood Watch is reporting a favourable outcome of a special meeting held last Saturday.
Chairman of the Neighbourhood Watch, Luis De Shong stated in a release that several young people from the communities met in a mutually satisfying session, which teased out the desires and the expectations of the youngsters, and commended the process of crafting an appropriate plan for the way forward.

Cable and Wireless has developed a programme geared at brining its senior workers and customers closer together.
The programme was launched yesterday at Cable and Wireless’ main office in Kingstown.
According to Customer Service Manager, Daphne De Shong, the aim of the programme is to allow Cable and Wireless’ senior management the opportunity to mingled with customers and to get a feed back as to how best the company can serve its customers.
De Shong said every Thursday senior personnel of Cable and Wireless will serve the customers in many different areas.

Lawyer Grahame Bollers is expected to enter a default judgment in the High Court today against opposition senator, Daniel Cummings. Cummings lost his legal battles in a defamatory suit filed by Dr Gonsalves’ lawyer. Dr Gonsalves is seeking well over $100,000 from Cummings, which he will donate to charity.
Meanwhile, talk show host, Elwardo ‘EG’ Lynch is asking the court to allow him to pay Dr Gonsalves between $70,000 and $100,000 in a legal matter he lost. Dr Gonsalves is seeking $200,000 from Lynch, which is also to be donated to charity.
PM GONSALVES' VISIT TO AUSTRIA...
Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves is wrapping up his visit to Austria and will be leaving for London and Switzerland.
Dr Gonsalves said his meetings in Austria have been productive and he was able to secure an agreement for Vincentian students to study in Austria.
Dr Gonsalves said he was also able to secure of heavy-duty equipment, some of which will be used in the construction of the International Airport at Argyle.
The Prime Minister is expected to return to the state on Friday.
POLICE INVESTIGATING SHOOTINGS...
Police are conducting investigations into two shootings that occurred in the Sharpes area last Thursday and Friday.
Brian Williams and Edmund Sam of Sharpes are in critical condition at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.
Williams was shot in the head last Thursday, while Sam received bullets to his face last Friday.

PM GONSALVES’ LAWYER TO ENTER JUDGEMENT FOR COST...
Lawyer Grahame Bollers is expected to enter a judgment in court next Monday for assessment of cost on behalf of Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves.
The judgment is against NDP Senator, Daniel Cummings, who may now have to pay a considerable amount of money to Dr Gonsalves.
Cummings made false and malicious statements at a public meeting against Dr Gonsalves and the court will now determine the amount of money to be paid to Dr Gonsalves, who stated publicly that the money will be donated to a charitable organisation.
SVG HUMAN RIGHTS DENY ALLEGATIONS...
The SVG Human Rights Association held a news conference this afternoon, disclaiming reports that a alleged sexual abuse matter committed by a member of the opposition New Democratic Party, was reported to its office.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves stated at a news conference that a report was made to a member of the Human Rights Association, who has connection with the National Youth Council, and no action was taken, neither was the matter reported to the police.
The Human Rights personnel with connection to the NYC was absent from today’s press conference.
CDC NAMES CONTESTANTS FOR MISS SVG 2008...
The Carnivial Development Corporation today released the names of the nine young ladies who will vie for the title of Miss SVG.

The nine ladies are now in training and are receiving assistance from three former Miss SVG in Michelle Fife, Lafern Cato and Melissa Yorke.
The Miss SVG winner will receive a scholarship, courtesy this country’s government.
WIZARDS MAS CAMP LAUNCHES...
The Wizards mas Camp will launch its 2008 presentation at the Chamber of Commerce Car park this Sunday.
Wizards first came on the scene in 1983 out of Georgetown with designer Lennox Dinks Johnson and this year’s presentation will pay tribute to the band’s
survival.
The Mas Camp will be taking 10 Osborne Browne designs to the Victoria Park, in its quest to capture the coveted band of the year title, now being held by KGFC

SVG HUMAN RIGHTS DENY ALLEGATIONS...
The Human Rights Association is expected to stage a media briefing this afternoon to deny allegations that one of its members was informed of a sexual allegation against a member of the opposition New Democratic Party.
Speaking at a news conference yesterday, Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves stated a female made a report of sexual assault to a member of the Human Rights Association, who has affiliation with the National Youth Council and that no action was taken. An article appearing in The News newspaper today also reported that an individual with connections to the Human Rights Association had informed a trade unionist of a sexual allegation against a politician. The matter was never reported to the police.
CDC INCREASES PRIZES...
The Carnival Development Corporation, the CDC, is increasing the prize monies and appearance fees for the Best Song Competition in both the Calypso and Soca category. A release from the CDC states that this became necessary due to the high cost for the production of music.
The new song competition is part of the launching of carnival, which is scheduled for Saturday May 3rd at the Chamber of Commerce Car Park.
DIGICEL GOSPEL FEST IN HIGH GEAR...
Following the opening of the Digicel Gospel fest last weekend, the festival kicks into high gear this weekend with the staging of the first zonal gospel showcases, the preliminary rounds of the festival.
The Kingstown zone will lead off with two nights of presentations in music and song today and tomorrow night at the Peace Memorial Hall. There will also be performances in the North Windward, North Leeward, South Leeward and the Marriaqua Zones.
NINE CONTESTANTS FOR MISS SVG PAGEANT...
Nine young ladies have been selected and are now in training for the Miss SVG Beauty Pageant scheduled for Saturday May 31st at the Victoria Park.
The ladies were selected by a panel comprising Minister of Culture, Rene Baptiste and members of the board of directors of the Carnival Development Corporation, the CDC. The nine ladies are receiving assistance from former queens, Michelle Fife, La Ferne Fraser and Melissa Yorke, who have completed their university studies.

PM HOLDS PRESS CONFERENCE...
Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves has indicated that a top brass in the opposition New Democratic Party has had sexual allegations leveled against him. Dr Gonsalves give the indication after a journalist posed a question to him this morning at a news conference.
Dr Gonsalves responded by stating that an individual with close links to the National Youth Council and the local Human Rights Association was provided with the allegations, but no report was made to the police. Dr Gonsalves made it clear the opposition top brass is innocent until he is proven guilty.
17 YEAR OLD CHARGED FOR MURDER...
Police this morning charged 17-year-old Devon Ambris, a form 5 student at the St Martin’s Secondary School with murder in relation to the death of 32-year-old Fitzroy Browne, better known as Poison of Arnos Vale.
Browne was stabbed to death last Monday evening, while waiting on transportation at the Bus stop at the Peace Memorial Hall. Ambris will be back in court in June for the start of the Preliminary Inquiry.
TAIWAN DELEGATION VISITS SVG...
A Taiwan ecotourism research delegation lead by a parliamentarian and Chairperson of the Taiwan Sustainable Ecology Society, arrived here yesterday with the purpose to explore and promote birding ecotourism in this country.
It is hoped that photographic profiles of the birds of St. Vincent and the Grenadines can be systematically gathered for future reference.
GOVERNMENT GRANTED FLOUR INCREASE...
Persons here could soon be paying more for bread and other products made from flour. Last Tuesday, government granted the flourmills permission to raise the price of flour but the increase has not yet been passed on to the steady rise in raw materials on the world market.
PM RETURNS FROM MEXICO...
Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves arrived home from Mexico last evening, stating his trip was a successful one. Dr Gonsalves is expected to hold a news conference this morning, to bring the nation up to date on his trip. While in Mexico, Dr Gonsalves held talks with President Filipie Calderon and other Mexican government officials and also met with Vincentian students on scholarships in the Spanish-speaking nation. Dr Gonsalves will leave this evening for Austria.
FLOUR PRICE INCREASED...
The price of flour is being raised due to the high cost of imported raw material. President of the Chamber of Commerce, Jerry George, says it was inevitable this was going to happen and cautioned that the removal of the Common External Tariff, may only be a shot-term solution, since wheat and other raw materials may be on the increase in the next four years.
PM TO ATTEND MEETING ON BANANAS IN ST. LUCIA...
Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves is expected to leave next week for St Lucia where he will meet with the Prime Ministers of Dominica and St Lucia, as well as other stakeholders in the banana industry.
Officials from the Windward Island Banana Development Company, WIBDECO, and the Windward Island Farmers Association, WINFA, will also be at the meeting, which will discuss ways of ending the impasse in the Windward Islands’ banana industry. WIBDECO is facing two lawsuits from the St. Lucia Banana Company, the SLBC, and the Dominica Banana Producers Limited, the DBPL, over its decision to sign new sales and purchase agreements with the WINFA.

The Ministry of Tourism’s statistical department is reporting an overall increase in visitor arrivals to the country for the period January to November 2007. According to a release from the Ministry of Tourism, during this period the total visitor arrivals recorded an increase of 16.5% over the corresponding period for 2006, with an actual increase of 41,860 visitors. The release said the Marine Sector continues to do very well, with an increase in yacht visitors by 8,398, a 11.4% increase over the previous year. The period April to November 2007 reflected a steady increase in yacht visitors in comparison to last year. During this period the second quarter figures of April to June increased by 11,816 or 70.8%, while the third quarter July to September had an increase of 7,168 or 125.3%.
SVG PLAYS KEY ROLE TO COMMEMORATE VICTIMS OF TRANSATLANTIC SLAVE TRADE...
This country was part of a small CARICOM subcommittee that successfully organised a week of events at the United Nations, to commemorate victims of the transatlantic slave trade. The UN General Assembly, in December 2007, adopted a CARICOM-sponsored resolution designating March 25th as an annual day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade, after Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves brought the matter to the fore, in a address to the UN General Assembly.
The Caucus of Permanent Representatives of CARICOM at the United Nations thanked St. Vincent and the Grenadines for its valuable contributions to the work of the subcommittee and conveyed its deep appreciation for the collaboration of this country, in the successful planning and staging of the commemorative events. POLICE QUESTION THREE TEENAGERS IN CONNECTION WITH DEATH OF FITZROY "POISON" BROWNE...
Police are now questioning three teenagers in connection with the death of Fitzroy Browne, better known as Poison of Arnos Vale, who was killed last Monday evening. Browne was killed in the area of the Peace memorial Hall after he was reportedly attacked and stabbed by four men. A post mortem was to be conducted this afternoon to determine the cause of Browne’s death.
FOREIGNERS CHARGED FOR POSSESSION OF US$1.7M...
Two foreigners appeared in court yesterday charged with being in possession of US$1.7 million, belonging to another. Bermudian Winston Robinson and Trinidadian Kent Andrews were also charged with entering the state without notifying the Comptroller of Customs. The men were found on board the boat Joe Tobin last weekend, along with a Vincentian man, who is being questioned by police.
OTTLEY HALL INQUIRY...
The lawyer who is assisting with the public Inquiry into the failed Ottley Hall and Marina Project, Anthony Astaphan SC, has made it clear that former Prime Minister, Sir James Mitchell has not won any major victory.
The Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal on Monday granted permission for Sir James to have a judicial review, in a ruling handed won by Justice Frederick Bruce-Lyle last year. (Insert tape where he says that seven of the matters were ruled against Sir James and it is only one relating to the judge’s decision in sending info to the DPP).
The Inquiry was established to find out how the Sir James’ administration spent $200 million that were borrowed from a consortium of banks in Europe to construct a shipyard and marina at Ottley Hall, which is worth no more than US$10 million.
WEST ST. GEORGE SECONDARY SCHOOL...
The West St George Secondary School is planning its second annual career fair for Wednesday 23rd April. A release from the school states the main aim of the fair is to educate the third form students on the careers available to them, when they leave school.
Principal Jennifer Marshall stated in the release the school's staff is hoping that the fair will enable the students to make informed choices regarding their subjects, as they prepare to enter form four.

Recent assessments of the trade and business environment in St. Vincent and the Grenadines by the World Bank indicated that the environment for doing business was not favourable.

Profiles of about 20 persons either living or dead and drawn from the various fields of medicine, science, engineering, politics, the teaching profession, civil service, agriculture, the arts, law and community service, are being sought and any author may submit multiple contributions.
OLE GEORGE AND BUTCHER MILLION DOLLAR WALK...
Walking legend Earl ‘Ole George’ Daniel and his walking partner Joel Butcher are warming up for the second leg of the Million-Dollar Walk that is organized by the Rotary Club of St. Vincent South, in partnership with the Virginia-based International Hospital for Children, the IHC. This walk will be held in St Lucia on Saturday of this week
The first leg was held Grenada last month and the initiative is geared to raise funds to procure equipment and to construct a Caribbean Hospital for Children, to be located her.
A release from the Rotary Club South states that resources are being sought to finance the equipment, now required for use by IHC visiting medical teams, who have been travelling to St. Vincent periodically since 2002, treating scores of children.

PM GONSALVES IN MEXICO...
Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves is now in Mexico embarking on negotiations with a number of stakeholders, in relation to this country’s development.
In a radio interview with Burns Bonadie, Dr Gonsalves said he held good discussions with the Mexicans in relation to the construction of the Argyle International airport.
Dr Gonsalves also held a town hall meeting with a number of students who are in Mexico on scholarships.
FARMERS GET DEMONSTRATION ON PESTICIDES...
Fifteen farmers yesterday took part in a demonstration on the handling, storage and the use of pesticide in vegetable production at Cecil James’ farm at Largo Heights.
Today, twenty five farmers in the Cumberland Valley will look at the production of healthy vegetable seedlings, to ensure they have maximum control of their production, which will help in the reduction of cost and the improvement of efficiency.

MP FOR NORTH LEEWARD EXTENDS AN INVITATION TO VISIT HIS CONSTITUENCY...
Minister of Telecommunications Dr Gerrol Thompson is extending an invitation to persons to visit his constituency in North Leeward, as the area embarked on its thrust to become this country’s main tourist attraction.
Dr Thompson said work will soon start to enhance areas such as Dark View Falls, Trinity Falls, Baleine and the Heritage Village.
In preparation for the influx of both local and foreign visitors to North Leeward, Dr Thompson said
persons in the community are being prepared on how to deal with this.
Last week Friday, tourism history was created, when a tourist liner with over 500 passengers and crew, docked in at the Chateaubelair harbour.
GOSPEL FEST OFF TO A GOOD START...
The Digicel Gospel Fest got started last Saturday night, and Cultural Officer, Michael Peters said it was a good start for the month-long festival.
Peters says the festival will now focus on the zonal showcases, where persons in the different communities will perform their talents in areas such as dance,
drama, singing, poetry and other areas of culture.
The Kingstown zone has recorded the most entries for the festival, which will climax on April 26th and
27th.
INVESTIGATE ALLEGED SEXUAL MISCONDUCT BY A TOP BRASS NDP!
Press Secretary to Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalvs, Hans King is calling on some persons associated with the opposition New Democratic Party to conduct an investigation into an alleged sexual misconduct against a top brass in the NDP.
Speaking on this morning's Shake Up programme, King said the matter was reported to the Human Rights Association, but the organization has failed to do anything.
King also reported that an alleged sum of $20,000.00 was offered to the young lady who is making the allegation against the NDP official.
DPP DISCONTINUES SEXUAL ASSAULT CHARGE...
Director of Public Prosecutions, the DPP, Colin Williams, last Friday took over and discontinued a sexual assault charge filed in the Family Court last February against Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves.
In a sworn statement, a Canadian-born lawyer with Vincentian citizenship, Margaret Parsons claims that sometime in 2004 she went to the office of the Prime Minister and was sexually assaulted, but reports state that just a few days ago, Parsons changed the date to 2003.
This country’s constitution gives the DPP authority to take over and discontinued any criminal matter before the court.
In related news....
At least one person who Canadian lawyer Margaret Parsons said she confided in that Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves sexually assaulted, has informed the police that he cannot recall ever hearing such allegations from her, stating he would have remembered.
Parsons also named a lawyer here as another individual who she related the allegations to, but the lawyer has failed to confirm this with investigators.
Parsons resides in Canada and has Vincentian citizenship, and one legal source said she faces the possibility of having a criminal charge levelled against her for lying under oath.
CWSA HOLDS CUSTOMER APPRECIATION DAY...
The Central Water and Sewage Authority, CWSA, this morning held a customers’ appreciation day, where they held an exhibition, show-casing composting.
Manager Garth Saunders said without the customers the CWSA would not reach its desired target and the day was one way of showing his company’s appreciation.
Ten of CWSA's largest customers were awarded gifts and a plaque.

Dr Gonsalves will meet this afternoon with a number of Vincentian students on scholarships in Mexico, and will tomorrow meet with Mexico’s President, Felipe Calderon, for talks centered around Mexico’s contribution the construction of the Argyle International Airport, education and training and private sector investment.

Minister of Social Development Mike Browne says there has to be a continued struggle against poverty, as part of showing love to the nation’s children.
Speaking earlier this week at a church service, which was part of child abuse and prevention month, Browne said the struggle against poverty must fought against at all times, since disadvantages glue to those who are disadvantage, which he says is a double whamy.
BARROUALLIE FISH FEST...
The Barrouallie Fish Fest will be back tomorrow at a new venue in Barrouallie as the organisers try to improve the product. St Lucian consultant, Peter Edwards said the festival was moved from the Cooperative’s compound to the old Barrouallie Playing Field. Browne said persons attending tomorrow’s festival can expect something with a difference, as the organisers try to promote the cultural aspects of Barroualklie and also introducing the people into a new cuisine.

PM VISITS MEXICO...
Prime Minister Dr.Ralph Gonsalves will lead a four member delegation on a three day official visit to Mexico from April 6th to 8th.
The delegation will include the Budget Director Edmund Jackson, the head of the Regional Integration and Diaspora Unit Ellsworth John, the Charge d’Affair at the country’s embassy in Washington La Celia Prince, and the head of the Prime Minister’s security Inspector Christopher Benjamin.

Taiwan’s Ambassador to this country, Jack Cheng says the completion, the National Library Project will become a landmark and a tourist attraction in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Ambassador Cheng made the comments yesterday, following the handing over of a cheque for EC$2.5 million to Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves. Ambassador Cheng also expressed confidence that the new modern facility will be put to very good use.

Station Sergeant Timothy Hazelwood who is attached to the Secial Services Unit of the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, recently received high commendations from the United States of America Army Officials, following his excellent performance in a recently concluded four month Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course at Fort Benning, Georgia, USA.
Station Sergeant Hazelwood, second in command at the SSU and head of the K-9 Unit, obtained grade 1 ratings in his academic evaluation and distinctions in
comprehension, speaking, reading and writing. He also obtained grade 1 ratings for attitude and motivation, attendance and punctuality, ability to grasp instruction, performance in practical exercises, and participation in class activities.

SIX GIVE EVIDENCE IN TRIPLE MURDER P.I.... Six prosecution witnesses gave evidence yesterday as the Preliminary Inquiry into the August 2007 triple
murder of Jamal Antoine of Layou, Omaro Bowens and Reuben Small of Lowmans Hill, got under way at the Serious Offences Court. 17-year-old Rodney Roberts, and 18-year-old Jason Henry are accused of committing the daylight murders, which sent shock waves throughout the country.
The spate of homicides last year allowed Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves to conceptualized the pan against crime initiative, which aims to target youths and is one of government's programme in its fight against crime and the causes of crime.
ROBERTSON CHARGED $10,000....
Motorcycle and parts dealer, Businessman Kenroy Robertson has until tomorrow to pay a $10,000 fine after he was found guilty of gun possession.
Chief Magistrate Sonya Young said she was imposing the fine because of Robertson's medical condition, which requires regular treatment, only available outside the country.
MIN OF EDUCATION TO OCCUPY ARCHIVES BUILDING...
Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves says he expects the Ministry of Education to soon occupy the building that is to housed the archives.
The archives is part if the $34 million library project, which is receiving assistance from the Taiwanese government.
Taiwan Ambassador, Jack Cheng, yesterday handed over a cheque for $2.5 million to Dr Gonsalves for the project. This is the second contribution from the $7 million promised by the Taiwanese.

The Ministry of Education is currently conducting a peer counseling and Mentoring Training workshop for students of the Intermediate High School and the Petit Bordel Secondary School.
Seven third form students of the IHS and ten from the Petit Bordel Secondary School are being trained as Mentors and
Peer Counsellors in a number of areas such as conflict resolution and violence prevention.

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves today said the new building that was constructed to house the Archives would be ready soon for occupation.
Speaking this afternoon at the handing over of $2.5 million from the Taiwanese Ambassador, Jack Cheng, Dr Gonsalves said the library project is situated on two acres of land that will housed the archives, the modern library and also the modern performing arts center. The library project is to cost some EC$34 million.

SENATOR CAESAR SWORN IN
Former National Scholar, Saboto Caesar, took the oath of office this morning at Government as a Government Senator.
Caesar replaces lawyer Ronnie Marks, who was one of four persons appointed Senators, shortly after the 2005 general elctions.
Caesar was also sworn in as a Parliamentary Scretary in the Ministry of Housaing, Lands and Survey and Informal Sttlement, headed by Senator Julian Francis.
Senator Caesar will have responsibility for Land and Surveys in the ministry.
SVG HOSTS OECS CONFENERNCE ON CREATIVE INDUSTRIES
The OECS Secretariat will host a two-day conference tomorrow and Friday at Young Island.
The conference will look at the Creative Industries, with particular reference to the film and music sectors, and will bring together a number of international film and music producers.
The conference will focus on topics in the film industry, such as the current state of the creative industries in the OECS, and will be addressed by Minister of Culture, Rene Baptiste and OECS Director General, Dr Len Ishmael.
ECCB SAVINGS AND INVESTMENT COURSE
The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, in collaboration with the Eastern Caribbean Institute of Banking, the ECIB, and the University of the West Indies are conducting the third Savings and Investment Course here.
Sixty-two persons from various businesses as well as self-employed persons are participating in the ten-week programme.

FIU WARNS OF NIGERIAN SCAM
The Financial Intelligence Unit, the FIU, is warning persons here against a Nigerian scam call advance fee fraud.
A release from the FIU states that a number of persons have made contact with its office, stating they have been victims of the scam.
The FIU release states that once persons have parted with their cash, there is little that can be done to recover the monies, or even to identify and persecute the perpetrators.
GOVERNMENT RECEIVES $2.5M FROM THE ROC
The Embassy of the Republic of China on Taiwan, the ROC, will hand over EC$2.5 million tomorrow to Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves.
The money is to aid in the construction of a modern library and performing arts center at Murray's Road, and will be presented to Dr Gonsalves by Taiwan's resident Ambassador, Jack Cheng.
Following his Unity Labour Party's victory at the polls in 2001, Dr Gonsalves paid a visit to Taiwan where he secured
monies to construct the modern library.
PM GONSALVES TO 5TH MEETING OF CARICOM COUNCIL OF MINISTERS
Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves will lead a delegation to the Fifth Meeting of the Caricom Council of Ministers responsible for National Security and Law Enforcement in Trinidad. The meeting runs from April 3rd to 4th.
Following the meeting, Dr Gonsalves will stay on to attend the Heads of Government conference and is expected to leave Trinidad and travel to Mexico.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Godfrey Pompey and Consultant to the government on Security, Sir Vincent Beache, will accompany Dr Gonsalves to the Council of Ministers responsible for National Security and Law Enforcement meeting in Trinidad.
CSME Billboards
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Commerce and Trade, Sir Louis Straker, will unveil two billboards in the Grenadines this week as part of the Ministry’s campaign to sensitize nationals to the effects of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy, the CSME.
The billboards will be located at Port Elizabeth, Bequia and Clifton, Union Island. The ceremony in Bequia takes place tomorrow, near to the Tourist Bureau while the Union Island event will be on Thursday in the area of the Tobago Cays Office.
The CARICOM Single Market and Economy is intended to provide more and better opportunities for nationals of the region to produce and sell goods and to attract investment.
